We are excited to introduce MENTRUS, a unique partnership between Menter Dinefwr, PLANED, and 4CG, united by a shared mission to deliver transformative support for communities in West Wales. Drawing on decades of proven collective experience, local knowledge, and invaluable resources, we aim to provide a tailored and community-focused approach to address some of the most pressing challenges faced by our region.

What Makes MENTRUS Different?

Unlike national organisations that may be far removed from the realities of everyday life in rural communities, MENTRUS is rooted in the heart of West Wales. This proximity gives us a distinct advantage: we understand the nuances, needs, and aspirations of our communities. Our commitment to place-based support means that we’re not just here to deliver services; we’re here to empower, uplift, and provide sustainable, long-term solutions that resonate with the local culture and way of life.

A New Chapter with Meri Huws at the Helm

We’re also thrilled to announce that Meri Huws, the former Welsh Language Commissioner, will serve as the first Chair of MENTRUS. Meri’s wealth of experience and deep connection to the Welsh language makes her an invaluable leader as we work to promote and protect Welsh culture and heritage. Under her guidance, we’re poised to make a meaningful impact across West Wales, particularly in areas where the Welsh language plays a vital role in community identity and cohesion.

Our Focus Areas: Strengthening Communities, Building a Brighter Future

MENTRUS is committed to delivering tangible results in three key areas that matter most to the people of West Wales:

  1. Community Assets: We believe in the strength of local assets, whether it’s community spaces, skills, or networks. By supporting and empowering communities to harness their own resources, we can create sustainable solutions that are owned and driven by the people who benefit most.
  2. Economy & Social Enterprise: Thriving local economies are essential to the well-being of our communities. Through social enterprises and locally-driven economic initiatives, we aim to foster growth, create jobs, and strengthen the economic resilience of the region.
  3. Local Affordable Housing: Housing is a fundamental need that impacts everyone, and in West Wales, affordable housing is often in short supply. MENTRUS is dedicated to addressing this challenge by supporting the development of affordable housing solutions that are both practical and sustainable for local communities.

Promoting the Welsh Language in Our Communities

The Welsh language is at the core of MENTRUS’ work. We understand how crucial the language is to the identity, heritage, and future of our communities. As part of our commitment to place-based knowledge, we will ensure that the promotion and protection of the Welsh language are embedded in all of our projects and initiatives. This isn’t just about preserving a language; it’s about enriching the social fabric of our communities and ensuring that future generations can thrive in both Welsh and English.

A Brighter Future for West Wales

At MENTRUS, we are proud to offer a unique approach that combines local expertise, a deep commitment to Welsh culture, and practical solutions to the challenges facing our communities. With the combined efforts of Menter Dinefwr, PLANED, and 4CG, we are confident that we can create a positive and lasting impact.

Thank you for joining us on this exciting journey. Together, we can build a stronger, more sustainable future for the communities of West Wales.

Stay tuned for more updates as we begin to roll out our initiatives and make a difference, one community at a time.
